The Bee’s Bounty workers are stopping by to remind you about the opportunity to participate in Fayette Academy’s first community garden. The harvest opportunities are filling up fast. Less than ten spots remain. The first of the tomatoes and early sprouting vegetables are well underway. We have hired summer teen staff and are excited to let you know that Max Phillips will be joining the Bee’s Bounty for his summer project. Max is a recent Fayette Academy graduate who is currently attending Harvard. Max has a lot of experience in the garden, having run his own retail garden produce stand in past years. He will be helping us establish our heirloom seed bank along with maintaining the bio-intensive garden over the summer.

We want to send a special thank you to the Somerville Art and Garden Club for inviting us to be their monthly program during their luncheon. We were blessed to share our new organic community gardening project. Two of their members joined right on the spot! We thank them for their support and generous contribution to this community garden project. We are so thankful for member Ms. Suzanne Rhea who has graciously offered up pine needles for our mulch. The Ecology Club has set a new garden work day on February 23 to begin the establishment of the new bio-intensive garden beds and to plant the early crops such as peas, lettuce, spinach, carrots and more.

If you have any questions about Fayette Academy’s Community Harvest Project, the Bee’s Bounty, or would like to participate in 10 weeks of fresh organic produce, drop me a note and I will send you the detailed information. Participants will pick up their share of the bounty every Thursday during the morning or afternoon pick up. There will not be extra produce to sell because each Wednesday the harvest will be evenly distributed between all of the families participating. Please email me at dlburrus@fayetteacademy.com if you have any questions. Happy Gardening!
