UTM and University of Memphis Honor Band – 2019

Fayette Academy students were selected from a pool of students all over West TN and different states to participate in the UTM & University of Memphis Honor Band. The selection was based on an application and recommendation for each applicant. Student’s selected from Fayette Academy were Andrew Boozer, Dylan Bardwell, Casey Melton, NeeNee Lyons, Justin Martin, Cutler Cannon, and Jacob Cronogue. After selection, the students then prepared audition music and scales along with other elements for chair placement auditions. The students auditioned for their chair and band placement on Thursday and then rehearsed from Thursday night until their performance Saturday Morning.

These students all performed in their designated ensembles and performed a concert within two days. At the UTM honor band, each ensemble got to do a world premiere of a piece; they were the very first ensemble to perform the piece. At U of M, the students had the opportunity to work with one of the most prolific Band composers of our time, Mr. John Mackey. He sat in on their rehearsals giving them insight and wisdom in not only in his music but in all music. It was a great learning experience for all of the students!
