Kate Whitenton Signs Letter of Intent with Lyon College
Fayette Academy’s Kate Whitenton Plans to join Lyon Lady Soccer Team
On December 7th, Fayette Academy Senior Kate Whitenton, Daughter of David and Carol Ann Whitenton, signed with Lyon College to join the Lady Scots soccer team.
Lyon College, located in Batesville, Arkansas is a selective undergraduate liberal arts college located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains region. Founded in 1872, it is one of the oldest colleges in Arkansas. The beautiful campus, family atmosphere, and numerous opportunities for outdoor activities was a determining factor in her decision to attend Lyon, states Kate.
The invitation to visit Lyon was extended to Kate after Lady Scots Soccer Coach, Marc Neddo saw her play during a club match.
Kate has been playing soccer since the age of 3 and is currently a member of the Lady Vikings Soccer team, serving as team captain, and the Arlington Soccer Club. She has also played in the Midsouth Football Club, of which she was a team captain as well. In 2017 Kate was awarded Best Offensive Player and this year was awarded All-District for the 2018 season.
Kate reflected on the support her family and friends have shown her during her soccer career, ” I don’t think my Dad ever missed a game, rain or shine, he was always there.” Playing club ball and being a member of the school team meant countless hours of practices and games, “My family has always supported me.” When asked about her younger sister, Emma Whitenton, also present at the signing, Kate continued with a smile, “My sister would ask, where we were playing this weekend, I don’t think she ever missed a tournament game.” Kate is also grateful for Coach Tiffany and her Viking teammates, “They made me a better player and Coach Tiffany taught me how to be a leader and helped me to prepare for the level of play at the college level.”
Kate plans on Majoring in Marketing at Lyon. Her plans also include spending any free time from the field and classroom out exploring and hiking in the Ozarks.
Congratulations Kate, from all of us at Fayette Academy, we wish you the best and are very proud of you.
Fayette Academy’s lower school, grades 3-5 presented “The Secret of Snowflake County”, directed by Becky Houston on December 6th at 7:00 pm.
Friends and family were transported to Snowflake County, a place where Christmas performances and celebrations have become so professional and overblown that they threaten to steal the focus away from the simplicity of the true meaning of Christmas: God coming down to earth as a baby. The Mayor, played by Addison McNabb and town residents are eventually reminded that the message of Christmas doesn’t need to be dressed up in lights or decorations to shine any brighter; at its simplest, it’s the brilliance of the one true Light, born in a humble stable.
The children entertained patrons through the story of “hope in a humble stable”, with songs, dancing snowflakes, cowboy shepherds, line dancing angels, tap dancing wise men and even a couple of cute hungry raccoons.
The Music Department would like to acknowledge all of those who aided in the production. Angelia Johnson, Dee Evans, Caroline Rinks, Catherine Jefferies, Jeanna Jeffries, and Abby Stone for their help with auditions; Cheyenne Johnson for teaching the line-dancing routine; Angelia Johnson for teaching the tap-dancing routine; Cindy Klein and Steve Luthe for help with set assembly; Rodney Patterson for Viking Center set-up; David Beaver for sound system operation; Nancy Thomas for her help with rehearsals; Josh Acker, Lower School Principal and the elementary faculty for their patience with rehearsals; all of the parents who tirelessly listened to lines, songs and assisted with miscellaneous chores and most of all, the children, who gave their time, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm.
